Offline registration process for a marriage certificate

Hindu Marriage Act, 1955

  • The Marriage Registration Act allows couples who follow the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, or Jain traditions and are members of these groups to apply for marriage registration.

  • The couple wishing to apply for marriage registration would have to visit the office of the Sub-registrar under whose jurisdiction their marriage was solemnised.

  • Marriage solemnized according to the customary practices or rituals of either party to the marriage, such Hindu marriage is also valid.

Special Marriage Act, 1954

  • Citizens of India can have their marriage registered under the Act of 1954.

  • If a couple applies for court marriage under this Act, the marriage certificate would be issued by the marriage officer as well.

  • According to the law a period of 30 days is provided for any objection against such court marriage, if no objection is raised against such court marriage, the officer would then issue a certificate to the couple.

  • The whole procedure can be performed without following any of the customs
