A marriage certificate serves as official documentation of your marriage to your spouse in India. The Supreme Court of India mandated the mandatory registration of all weddings in 2006. The registration of a marriage is distinctive, just like every marriage.
The paperwork needed for your marriage license may even change depending on where you got married, where you're staying, and what religion your partner practices.
One can register their marriage in India under,
The 1955 Hindu Marriage Act
The 1954 Special Marriage Act
A marriage certificate is handed to you when the marriage is registered. A marriage certificate is always very helpful when applying for a passport or when females want to change their maiden names, among other things. A valid proof that you are legally married to your partner is a marriage certificate.
Documents:
Voter ID, ration card, passport, driver's licence, or other proof of address
evidence of the husband and wife's DOBs
2 photos in passport size
Separate marriage affidavits from the husband and wife in the required format
Aadhaar card, a marriage invitation card
Keep in mind that all of these documents need to be self-attested.
Procedure under Hindu Marriage Act, 1955:
The Marriage Officer will issue a public notice allowing for a 30-day time for submission of objections and reviewing any objection within that period after receiving a signed application for the marriage registration from both parties.
The certificate of marriage, which must be signed by both parties who wish to wed as well as three witnesses, will be registered if the officiating official determines that all requirements have been met.
A Hindu in any of the following types or categories: Lingayat, Virashaiva, Arya Samaj, or Brahmo Samaj.

Hindu marriages are solemnized in accordance with the traditional rites and traditions.
To make the marriage registration procedure simpler, the state legislature has the authority to enact new rules. Once in effect, these regulations must be quickly submitted to the state assembly.
The Hindu Marriage Registry is available for review whenever necessary throughout acceptable hours. It acts as both a verified excerpt of the legal marriage ceremony and a legitimate statement or proof of statements.
The 1954 Special Marriage Act:
All people, regardless of creed, are subject to the secular Special Marriage Act. A marriage can be solemnized in any way the parties see fit, but it won't be legally binding until both parties confirm their commitment to one another in front of a marriage officer.
Moreover, intending spouses must meet the requirements listed below:
The male should be at least 21 years old, and the female should be at least 18 years old.
Both participants must be of sound mind and be able to give free, legal consent.
There should be no link between the two parties that is even remotely forbidden.
When a marriage is intended to be solemnized under this Act, the parties must provide the Marriage Officer notice in the format specified in the 2nd schedule. Both parties must be present in the location you requested for solemnization for the 30 days before to the day of giving notice.
A statement in the format prescribed in the third schedule of this act must be signed by the parties involved and three additional witnesses prior to the marriage being solemnized in front of the marriage officer. Both online and offline marriage registration require payment of specific costs. The payment method for the charge is online.
